In the new year, some of us are trying to leave things behind — and one of those things may be fat. There are actually foods that can help you do that; see the following five items (based on a Self Magazine article)
- Almonds – high in alpha-linolenic acid, can speed up metabolism
- Berries – Vitamin C that can help get rid of fat during exercise
- Cinnamon - ¼ of teaspoon can help prevent insulin strike which tells your body store fat not burn it
- Mustard – has tumeric which may slow growth of fat tissues
- Oranges – has flavones, known to lower increases in body fat
These are every day foods that we should be able to easily integrate into our diets.
Three key words for 2010 are 1) Simplicity 2) Heath and 3) Wellness (see our website for article). These are some of the top consumer food trends for the new year.
The fact is that most consumers want to at least try to eat healthier food or eat foods with enhanced nutritional value. Therefore, we recommend marketing your products with simple packaging while promoting the functional aspects as long as your marketing fits within legal standards.
Last year we told you about Smart Choices Program in which some companies such as Kellogg’s® where using health claims to promote their products such as Fruit Loops®. Well, the FDA pulled the plug on that Program and this year the FDA and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are cracking down on companies that make health claims (see supermarket news article). If you have questions about what is appropriate for your packaging or about the nutritional content of your products, then consult with a professional in this area. The big companies spent millions of dollars in their failed marketing campaigns. Smaller businesses cannot risk having their products pulled off the shelf or being forced to have their packaging redesigned.
Like the old saying says: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
